DSC (“we”, “us”) provides drone inspection, pilot training and catastrophe-response services to the Canadian property insurance, restoration and roofing industries. This policy outlines how we handle personal information in the course of that work. It is written to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy statutes.

1. Accountability

DSC has designated a Privacy Officer who is responsible for our compliance with this policy. Questions, requests and complaints should be directed to info@dscinc.ca with the subject line “Privacy”.

2. What we collect

In delivering inspections we collect on behalf of our clients and their software provider: property imagery (photographs, video and thermal imagery of the subject property captured by drone). This imagery is used by our clients’ software provider to calculate property measurement data. We also obtain the property address and contact details of the policyholder or occupant as supplied by the assigning client. We do not receive or collect the policyholder or occupant name. From website visitors and business contacts we collect the information you provide directly, such as your name, work email, organization and the content of your enquiry.

3. Why we collect it

Limited personal information is collected for the purposes of: performing the inspection assigned to us by an insurer, adjusting firm, restoration contractor or roofer; delivering imagery and measurement data to that assigning client’s software provider for use in the claim or project file; scheduling site visits with occupants; complying with Transport Canada operational record-keeping requirements; and responding to enquiries. We do not use personal information for any other purpose without consent, and we do not sell personal information.

4. Consent

Consent for the inspection is normally obtained in advance of the flight by our client. Cameras are oriented to the subject risk; capture of neighbouring properties and individuals is avoided and, where incidental, is not retained beyond delivery upload. Occupants may withdraw consent at any time before or during a site visit by telling the claim adjuster assigned to their claim, our pilot or contacting us.

5. Limiting collection, use and disclosure

We collect only what the assignment requires. Imagery is then uploaded to our clients’ software provider portal. We do not disclose personal information to other parties except where required by law.

6. Retention

We do not retain any imagery or data collected during a drone scan once it is uploaded to our clients’ software provider’s portal.

7. Accuracy, access and correction

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, by contacting the Privacy Officer. We respond within the timelines required by PIPEDA. Where the information originates from an insurance claim, we may refer part of the request to the assigning insurer as the principal record-holder.

8. Website data

Our website uses analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify individuals. Forms on this site collect only the information you type into them, used solely to respond to your enquiry.

9. Complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response to a privacy concern, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or to your provincial privacy regulator where provincial law applies.
